Hullabaloo Part 2
Damian Kulash is in good company. Not only was he a guest blogger at Coolfer, but yesterday he was sandwhiched between retired general Wesley Clark and Nicholas Kristof on the New York Times' Op-Ed page. The OK Go frontman wrote "Buy, Play, Trade, Repeat," a piece on CD copy protection for the Times that was a remix of a post he wrote for Coolfer.
Not surprisingly, the Internet was all over it. Boing Boing and Slashdot both posted a link to the article, as did Digital Music News. Bloggers reacted strongly to Damian's opinions. Check the action at Technorati.
Artists are prone to complain about their misfortunes, but Damian's thoughtful piece was the most well-reasoned statement by a musician Coolfer has read in some time, and it shows the conflicts that an artist and label face with issues of digital protection (can't condone piracy, need file sharing to act as promotion). Its tone should help its message be contemplated by those in both agreement and dissent.
